my mom = superwoman!

My mom competed in the Triathlon at the Senior Games this weekend in St. George, and she did awesome!!

Her time was 1 hour 28 minutes, and she won the Silver Medal for her age group! She was the first one out of the pool, and first one onto her bike in her heat!

[please notice how toned my mom's legs are!! awesome!]

In order to compete in the Senior Games, you had to be at least 50 years old, and during the triathlon, each competitor had their age written on their calf. It was quite inspiring to me – being the overly lazy person that I am – to see all these old people still doing triathlons! At the awards ceremony, they announced the winners from each age group, and their times. There was an 84-year-old man who did finished in 1hr 34 minutes!! Very impressive!

After the triathlon, we visited with my grandma, and her sister (my great-aunt) who is going to be 102 in February! The two of them together are just hilarious – my mom and I were laughing quite a bit. They are both pretty much blind, and can’t hear great, so they just sit around and yell at each other! I was getting a bit sleepy, so I figured that since neither one can see all that well, they wouldn’t notice if I just sat there with my eyes closed. But they did notice, which makes me think that they are lying about how much they can and can’t see!!

It was a great weekend full of old folks, and made me not feel so bad about my upcoming birthday this year!

  6. Thanks for the great press, Emily - but I'm not sure I like the way you lumped me in with all those "old folks"! The part about grandma and Aunt V made me laugh all over again :D .
